Julienas is based around the village named after, unsurprisingly, Julius Caesar. The wines made from this area are noted for their richness and spice, with aromas reminiscent of peonies. In contrast to the claims of Régnié, Juliénas growers believe that this area was the site of the first vineyards planted in Beaujolais by the Romans during this conquest of Gaul.
This lovely Julienas is 100% Gamay, medium – bodied, with a silky texture displaying ripe, aromatic flavors of griotte and blackberry fruit, and layers of violettes. There is a fine balance to this elegant red, with a lingering finish.
